Memories of an RN friend
By Hugh Allison
Last year
 I went to a funeral
      Something
I seem to always do now
 This time
 The room was beyond crowded
      Maybe
The first time I’ve had to stand

 I was
Moved to tears by the speakers
      So sad
That we will not see again
 Her smile
 Lighting up the local pubs
      Always
On hand to brighten the mood

 Social
 Good at talking and list’ning
      Never
      Forgetting to buy her round
 So pleased
 She’d found the perfect partner
      Who must
Be suff’ring so much right now

 In life
She was an RN who would
      Bring hope
In both her job and elsewhere
 She would
 Care for ev’ryone she knew
      Did she
Know what she meant to us all

 Now she
Grins down on us from Heaven
      Sporting
      The gold halo she deserves
 And yet
 So unassuming with it
      Truly
She was and is an angel
