Schoolsick
By Mark Bird
I love school like a kick in the shin
I love school like a spot on my chin
I love school like a wet granny kiss
I love school like a goal that I miss
I love school like when I get the blame
I love school like a cheat in the game
I love school like detention all week
I love school like a wedgie from Freak
…
Now back in Lockdown, I’ve got itchy feet
Recycled days, doom and Zoom on repeat
Now back in Lockdown, I wonder and wait
When will I meet my best friend at the gate?
Now back in Lockdown I’m feeling schoolsick
Brainwaves decaying, I’m craving a tick
…
I love school like assembly applause
I love school like a lesson outdoors
I love school like a mischievous dare
I love school like a secret we share
I love school like my teacher’s proud wink
I love school like a mind made to think
I love school when my mates laugh out loud
I love school when I’m one of the crowd
I love school… just like school I suppose
I love school when it’s open not closed
…
Now out of Lockdown, surrounded by smiles
Back at my desk, but it may take a while
Now out of Lockdown, to find the old me
My teacher reviving, who I’m meant to be
Written Word ‘Head’ poems
